Day 13 - Back in the Saddle Again

I'm sore today, but ready to ride again.

The morning started out with me waking Kevin up to ask if he had his alarm set.  "Yes", is the answer.  I tell him it's 6 am.   He jumps up out of bed, runs to his phone (alarm), and grumpily tells me it's 2 am.  Ooops, I did the 2 hours difference wrong.   Neither of us went back to sleep.

Kevin leaves at 5:30 am, to take the truck back to Durango to their Ford Dealership to have them look at the brakes, I'm taking Nikki on a 3 hour "hike" to the creek and to photo birds.  Then I did our laundry and made ready for a motorcycle ride when Kevin returns.

Today we did 40 miles of gravel and adventure roads.  NO mud puddles!!  I've got my game on again and ready for anything. Well, anything except for a hairpin curve that is only dirt and rocks with a bad bank to an approximately 200 yard fall.  Yep, we turn around.

We did the Alpine Loop and found some neat old mine remains, we beat the odds of being swept downstream, and we got photos of the bikes while laying down in the dirt (Kevin), thanks, but no thanks.

We leave here tomorrow to either camp at one of the creeks we found, or to head into Utah.  Only morning will know.  Unsure when we will have Internet service again, but will update Blog as we can!

I got a new bird today -Wilson's Warbler!  Also got a shot of the sunset here.

Day 15 - Miles of Adventures

Today started out with an outing on back dirt roads to see the Mexican Hat up close and personal.   We were hoping to be able to ride down to the San Juan River, but the descent was very steep with loose sand.   We did get to the back side of the Mexican Hat though. After that on to the Valley of the Gods!   WONDERFUL RIDE!!!   The road through the valley was as perfect as we could ask for for a dirt/sand road.   There was one time when my back wheel got a little squirrely on me in deep sand.   I was to blame because I was riding in Ray Charles mode (swinging head left and right to catch all the sights) and didn’t pay attention to my immediate surroundings.    It was very deep sand!   But I made it and Kevin following made it through with no problems.   Valley of the Gods is beyond words to describe!   I’m so disappointed that my “go pro” camera was not rolling as we drove through the valley.   I thought I’d turned it...

Day 16: Starry Starry Night - Kevin

Day started off at 5am on a trip back to Cortez to have a bed cover installed on the truck. Got back at noon and goofed off for a while and took a nap, Got up before sunset for a photo shoot in the Valley of the Gods. Amazing Milkyway, shot until around midnight until someone came down the road with a flashlight and cut through the desert scrub to get to faster. We loaded up and left before they reached us. I never saw them but it scared Stephanie pretty good. I had a 9mm on my hip and a 380 in my pocket and Steph had a death grip on her 38 for miles down the road. Aside from the spooky person it was a blast. I did randomly scan the area with my flashlight looking for eyeballs, there is a photograph on the office wall of this campground of a big mountain lion in the Valley of the Gods.

Day 16 - Cleaning Day & Scary Starry Night

Not much to say about today.   Kevin took the truck back to Cortez to have the bed cover installed (per our negotiations – we told them we wanted a bed cover – we got it).   His other mission was to go to their Wal-Mart to get groceries, etc.   Believe it or not, the Wally World in Cortez, CO is the closest one – 2 hours away.   The next closest one is in Flagstaff, AZ – 3 hours away.   I learned this from the young lady that was running the KOA office. While Kevin was gone, Nikki and I did our laundry and cleaned “house”.   That’s about it for now.   Kevin is talking about taking another nap, so I’m not sure if we will do anything more today or not. Drove to Kayenta to get cell service.   Not much else going on, yet. It's sunset and we are on our way to Valley of the Gods with camera equipment in tow to shoot stars.  We found 2 spots to photograph from.  The 2nd spot ended with us scurrying to get back into the truck, lock...
