Woke this morning to the sound of birds (not thunder) right
outside our window (a little Bob Segar going through my head now). They sound like a version of Bluebirds. And yes, they are. Not sure if they are Western Bluebirds or
Mountain Bluebirds, or even if there is a difference between the two. No phone or internet service so I’ll have to wait
to find out. Made hummingbird food and
within 2 minutes of putting the feeders out we had a hummer. Kevin is doing a bike ride while Nikki and I
hang out, Nikki is intrigued with the
Ground Squirrels. Watching her go from
hole to hole is like watching someone play Whack-A-Mole. They are super cute!
It’s not quite 10 am here yet. Think I’ll take a nap in a hammock.
Drove up to the top of the summit in order to get phone
service so that I could pull up my Merlin Bird App to identify some of the
photos I took. Got some new birds! A Western Wood-Pewee and a Green
Tailed-Towhee, a male and female Ruddy Duck, Red-naped Sapsucker, and an
American White Pelican.
After Kevin got back we took Nikki and explored in the
truck. The lakes here a beautiful –
crystal clear water and so blue. I’m
amazed that there are Pelicans here, the fishing must be good. We had to turn around at one point because of
a herd of cattle blocking the road. The
cowboy had his 2 working dogs with him and his horse and it looked like he was
trying to get them off the road. We
explored Freemont River in the meantime.
There we got a new Woodpecker.
Will need to ride up to the top of the summit again to consult Merlin.
Kevin and Nikki are taking a nap, I’m trying to keep my eyes
open as I type. Kevin and I both agreed
we needed a slug day. This is it,
although Kevin did clean the chains on both bikes so I guess he can’t say he
didn’t get anything accomplished. I can,
I’ve done absolutely nothing productive today.
